Tuesday, September 22nd

Mahlon was to our house at 4:30 this morning to take us to the airport. We flew to Portland leaving Boise at six. We had a layover in Portland and left there at 9:45 for Anchorage, Alaska. We were on a new plane and the flight was good. It was cloudy for a lot of the way and when the sun came out the snow-covered mountains were absolutely beautiful. We arrived in Anchorage a little early and Mike Branson came to pick us up. It is Fall here in the leaves are turning, it is so pretty. The air is cool and the natives know that winter is coming with long dark hours awaiting them. We are staying with Bob and Julie Marker,  we have known Julie for a long long time, she and her three children Paul, Chad, and Robyn lived in Star. Robyn and Joy were best of friends and have remained friends all these years.Julie and the children move to Alaska when Robyn was 11.  Mike is Robyn's and they have four children. Tonight they came for dinner and it was really good. Robyn had fixed Halibut, it was delicious, Bob and Julie fix squash cantaloupe green beans and a really good bread.  A few pictures with hopefully more to follow tomorrow.

Friday, September 11th

The last day & night of our trip. We didn't think it would end like this but it was a wonderful trip. We would do it again in a heart beat.  Joy came after us in her suburban and the snowmobile trailer, she got to Moab at 12:45. Don and the motorcycle guy got the motorcycle loaded on the trailer and then our cute little red trailer on behind it. We left Moab at 3 o'clock, we ate dinner in Ogden at Jeremiah's, it was a very good meal of salmon. That was at 8:30, we got to The LUJAN's at 3:30 and we were in bed by 4 AM this morning, it was a very long day, but a great vacation. We went 6,265 miles on the bike, 910 in the rental car, 600 miles towing the motor cycle home for a total of 7,775 miles on the trip. 

Thursday, September 10th

We got up early and ate breakfast, but there wasn't much left, a tour group had been there in almost cleaned it out. We walked over to Moab tours and we booked a two hour hummer ride. Our guides name was Marty. He took us up a place called Slick Rock, I don't know why it was called that as it wasn't Slick but it looks like it would be.  We couldn't believe a vehicle could go the place is it did, especially with me in it!!!  It was worth every penny, we saw terrain and rocks you would never see any other way. You have to experience it to appreciate it. After we were back we went to Moab Diner for breakfast. We then started for Canyonland National Park about halfway there a large fifth wheel trailer and pick up past ass and ran over a round about 2 inches by 2 foot long piece of pipe on the road. It slipped it into the motorcycle, it made a terrible noise but didn't notice anything immediately. As we turned off the highway

Don could hear the motor making A noise like a hole in the muffler. We stopped and checked and found that the damage was done in the front of the motor and Oil was dripping. We rode back to Moab and stopped at Moab  Tours and ask them where was a good place to take the bike. Don put a quart of oil in it there.  We rode to Moab Power Sports and they checked it out and found a hole in the crank case and a break running down the front of yet. The owner is Doricca, she took us up to Days Inn to get the trailer in her Razor.

We had left the trailer there to go sightseeing. She got us a room across the street at Desert Inn. They could not fix the bike because of the specialty tools required so Joy is leaving tonight and driving down to get us.  Doricca loaned us her suburban to drive, can you believe that someone that doesn't know us would loan is her car??  We are thankful that the damage was done to the motorcycle and not to us!!! It could have been a tragic accident. Thanks God for your protection and wonderful people. 

Wednesday, September 9 th

We got up at 6 as we wanted to get to Moab early enough to see the Arches, we already had a room at Days Inn. We stopped in Durango to try & fix Don's helmet. In Pueblo he had put a new head set in his helmet & so he thought it was the cord but no, it is the head set. They tried to talk him into a new wireless set but then I would need one too and that was $450, he decided not now!!  The land between Cortez and Dove Creek was farming, it had some irrigation, they raised corn, beans, alfalfa, wheat and some sunflowers, it covered a large area, it was pretty hilly though. We got to Moab about two and checked into the Days Inn. We went through the Arches National

Park, it was really something to see, Very beautiful and spectacular, God did an awesome job in His creation.  We are going to look at Canyonland tomorrow .

Tuesday, September 8th

When we were leaving Antonito we went by the house that they filmed Indiania Jones at then we saw an Adobe house & a house that a guy made out of used things. 😳. I told Daddy Don not to worry, I didn't need or want a house like that.  We rode

to Alamosa and had breakfast, it was very good but we split and daddy Don thought it was kind of skimpy.  Ha. It lasted us until supper tonight though and then we split a fajita.  We rode out to the Sand Dunes  a ways out of Alamosa. They are the highest in N America & there was some wet lands there which surprised us. They were nice but we didn't want to get stand in our boots so we didn't hike. We came through Center, Colorado, we thought there was a Friends Church there but the GPS couldn't find it and we ask a few people and they never heard of it.  Around Center there was a lot of farming, they were raising potatoes and some wheat or barley there was also some hay.  It was a beautiful ride through the mountains & over Wolf Creek Pass. We are at Pogosa Springs tonight.
